Ofsted inspection results lauded
The latest Ofsted inspection results have been lauded by the education secretary and the government. It reveals that the number of schools in England classed as “good” or outstanding” is at a record high.
Nicky Morgan said that this is positive news and reflects the hard work done by all stakeholders over the past five years.
Ofsted’s report noted that 82 per cent of schools are now classed as being “good” or “outstanding”. This represents a one per cent rise on last year’s figures.
Today this means that over one million pupils throughout England now attend schools that are performing well, meaning that they will receive a quality education.
“[This is] a testament to the hard work of teachers, headteachers and governors across the country,” Ms Morgan said.
“At the heart of our commitment to social justice is our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to attend a good local school. Today’s figures are a cause for celebration for all of those with the best interests of children at heart.”
Ofsted recently announced that it is to radically transform the way it carries out inspections, in what is being described as the biggest shakeup in its recent history.
Some of the changes include shorter inspections for maintained schools, academies, further education and skills providers that were judged to be good at their last full inspection.
Also coming into effect in September of this year will be a brand new common inspection framework across all levels of education.
In a recent speech, Ofsted’s boss, Sir Michael Wilshaw, said: “Ofsted has reformed, is reforming and will continue to reform. We will always do our best to adapt to a changing educational landscape. Let me give you two further important changes we’re making.”
