This program is designed to provide you with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to handle first-aid situations involving children. Acquiring paediatric first aid is valuable for those who work with children and babies, like those in nurseries, schools, preschools, childminders, club supervisors, and sports instructors.
Please note that additional practical training is required to become a Paediatric First Aider as per regulations. It is advisable to renew this course every three years.
The course consists of ten distinct learning modules.
Module One: Role of the Paediatric First Aider
Covering the fundamental aspects of first aid, including definitions, aims, legislation, personnel, equipment, accident reporting, and the responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider.
Module Two: Primary and Secondary Surveys and the Recovery Position
Exploring primary and secondary surveys, hazard checks, and response assessments utilizing the AVPU method, alongside understanding the recovery position.
Module Three: Resuscitation and Defibrillation (AED)
Examining CPR techniques for infants and children, the chain of survival, and procedures for utilizing defibrillators in emergencies.
Module Four: Awareness of Seizures and Aiding a Choking Victim
Discussing seizures types and treatments, recognizing choking hazards, and providing aid for responsive choking victims.
Module Five: Wounds, Bleeding, Treatment for Shock, Bites, and Stings
Addressing various bleeding types, shock treatment, wound care, bites, stings, and identifying hypovolemic shock.
Module Six: Broken Bones, Fractures, Head, and Spinal Injuries
Exploring bone injuries, sprain treatment, head injuries, concussions, compressions, and spinal injury first aid.
Module Seven: Foreign Objects and Eye Injuries
Handling foreign object incidents, ear, nose, swallowed object treatment, and addressing eye injuries.
Module Eight: Effects of Heat and Cold, Treating Burns and Scalds
Understanding heat-related issues, hypothermia, heatstroke, burns, scalds, including chemical and electrical burn treatment.
Module Nine: Awareness of Chronic Illnesses, Asthma, Diabetes, Meningitis
Covering diabetes types, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, asthma, and meningitis first aid procedures.
Module Ten: Poisoning and Anaphylaxis
Raising awareness on poisoning types, symptoms, causes, and anaphylaxis definition, causes, and first aid treatments.
